Dear Parents and Students,
In this e-mail: 1. Concert Tonight! 2. State Orchestra Hotel fee 3. Wednesday Morning Rehearsal 4. Graduation, next week plan 5. Music collection 6. Sectionals 7. Concert Attendance 1. Our final home concert of the year is tonight at 7:00pm. Call time for students is 6:00pm. Please wear concert black and be on time. If anyone has a round table cloth we could borrow for the table with the programs, I think it would make our concert presentation seem a little bit nicer. Please bring a snack or a treat to share for our post concert orchestra social. 2. State Orchestra is on Friday!! Students, make sure you have paid your $25 to Mrs. Slaugh for the hotel and turned in the receipt. See attached itinerary for more info. State Orch 2016 Itinerary 3. The students requested a Wednesday morning rehearsal at 8:00am this week prior to State. We had great attendance in class today! Thanks for being there! Last week, we had two days in a row with 15 students absent. We spent all morning on our full-orchestra piece. A Wednesday rehearsal will give us time to continue to polish our pieces. Students who will not be attending State Orchestra do not need to attend. 4. We will have class on Monday and Wednesday next week where we will learn Pomp and Circumstance and The National Anthem. Next week on Thursday, we will meet (with music and instruments) at the Centrum on SUU's campus for graduation practice from 11am-noon. Then, call time that afternoon is 3:30pm. Graduation begins at 4:00pm. Concert black (unless you're a senior!) 5. We will collect music after graduation. Everyone must get their music turned in or pay for a new copy from the publisher ($5-7 per piece). 6. Make sure you get your 2 sectionals before state completed and turned in. As a reminder, a sectional is a group of people working together to match intonation, bowings, style, dynamics, etc. - not an individual practicing alone. 7. Concert attendance opportunities remaining: Wednesday, May 18 - 7:00pm Canyon View HS Orchestra - Free Thursday, May 19 - 6:30-7:30pm - CMS Orchestra plays for CMS Open House - Free See you tonight! Dear Parents and Students,
In this email: 1. Guest Conductors this week 2. Upcoming performances 3. State Orchestra - Are you staying in the hotel?? 4. Bass transportation to state orchestra 5. Grades/Playing Tests 6. Early morning rehearsals with full orchestra 7. Orchestra Shirts! 8. Practice and attendance. 9. Concert attendance opportunities 1. We will be having two different guest conductors this week during orchestra. Please be on time and please have 1812 overture prepared and ready to rehearse (you know your part, you just need to learn how it fits with others!) 2. We have quite a few upcoming performances: Tuesday, May 10 - 6:00pm - Perform Orpheus in the Underworld with CMS and 5th grade orchestras Tuesday, May 17th - Last CHS concert of the year - 6:00pm call, 7:00pm performance Friday/Saturday May 20-21 - State Orchestra at Salem Hills HS, overnight trip Thursday, May 26 - Dress rehearsal in the morning, call time 3:30pm, Graduation begins at 4:00pm (We are playing pomp and circumstance, Chaconne in E minor, and maybe the Star Spangled Banner). 3. State Orchestra - I need to know if you will NOT be staying at the hotel. I have currently reserved rooms for our class. The number of rooms needed will need to be adjusted based upon playing test eligibility and who is staying with parents elsewhere. IF you have not passed/turned in your playing tests, please make it happen. I have had only one student work with me after school to try to improve. I need to know by this Friday for the room reservations. If you will be leaving with your parents, please let me know so I can adjust the reservation accordingly. Once the number of students staying at the hotel is finalized, I will send out the cost of the hotel. You will need to pay Mrs. Slaugh and turn in the receipt. ALL fees must be paid to go on the trip. 4. There is a new rule at the bus garage saying Basses cannot travel on the bus. It is frustrating and makes no sense but there you have it. Parents, if you are planning on driving up to State Orchestra and would be able to transport basses in a large vehicle, please let me know. There may be a school vehicle we could use also but we'd have to figure out district willingness to let non-district employees drive it. 5. Grades are up to date. There are 2 no-name papers in the back room for Region Evaluations. All playing tests have been graded and entered. There are still a few students who have not turned in ANY playing tests. Please, please get those submitted either on the school ipad or uploaded on the googleclassroom. Be planning on 2 sectionals prior to State Orchestra. 6. We are tentatively planning an 8:00am rehearsal on Wednesday May 11th. I know that several orchestra students will be taking the AP test. I need to find out if enough percussion/brass/wind players can come to make it worth it. We may also try a 7:00am rehearsal to work with percussion/winds/brass some morning before our concert. We will be rehearsing in class with the band students (minus percussion) next week. 7. We got our orchestra shirts last week!! However, it seems someone may have inadvertently taken two shirts. If you got home and realized that you had an extra shirt (size small), please bring it back to school so the students who were absent on Friday can get their shirts. THANK YOU to the anonymous donor who made sure each student could get an orchestra shirt for free. 8. Students, I know the end of the year is a busy time. But please practice. Please show up to rehearsal ready to learn how the parts fit together, not ready to be spoon-fed your part. Know your part, know your rhythms and notes and shifts and play in tune. Please show up to class!! We have about 10-15 students absent EVERY class. This has been going on since about January. With the exception of 1 or 2 days, we have had 1/3 of the class gone every class period for two quarters. This makes it incredibly difficult for our class to improve the way I know we can. We have an amazing group of student musicians in our class. We need everyone to be present in order to sound our best. Please practice and please come to class on time. 9. Concert Attendance Opportunities: Tuesday, May 10 - 6:00pm Cedar Middle Orchestras - Free Thursday, May 12 - 7:00pm Suzuki Strings - Free Wednesday, May 18 - 7:00pm Canyon View HS Orchestra - Free Thursday, May 19 - 6:30-7:30pm - CMS Orchestra plays for CMS Open House Have a great week.
